• Distinguish Safeguarding from Child Protection: Contrast broad, proactive, day-to-day frameworks with specialized, reactive interventions within educational environments.
• Identify Risks and Warning Signs: Spot environmental vulnerabilities (such as material deprivation or social isolation) and physical or behavioral warning signs (such as regression or unexplained injuries) indicating abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
• Apply Professional Curiosity: Learn to look past surface-level explanations, challenge unconscious biases, and connect minor incidents to uncover broader, underlying patterns of harm.
• Manage Disclosures Professionally: Deploy supportive communication techniques when a child shares a concern—balancing empathy with realistic transparency regarding the limitations of confidentiality.
• Execute the Reporting Pathway: Confidently navigate the internal reporting hierarchy (Observe $\rightarrow$ Record $\rightarrow$ Report) to hand off concerns to your Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) without independently investigating or waiting for definitive proof.
• Draft Legally Robust Records: Apply the "Fact-Only Record Framework" to draft precise, objective, and timely safeguarding reports that log exactly what was seen and heard using the child's own words.
• Share Information Securely: Understand and apply the Seven Golden Rules of Information Sharing, prioritizing child safety and development over confidentiality when a risk to life or welfare exists.
